Weekend round up – February in the garden
Well, that’s the end of February in the garden for me, I fell like I’ve managed to catch up somewhat and get the greenhouse and garden almost back on track.
This weekend has been a great one and I was lucky enough to get a 3 day weekend in due to some time in lieu owed from work. Below are some of the bits I managed to get completed within this time.
Again I’ve been super lucky with this it’s been dry for the three days if a little cold. This really helps to push things forward in the garden instead of being trapped in the greenhouse.
I also managed to get a few seeds planted mainly just pea’s a few large pots of early carrots and radish. Hopefully, this arctic blast we have coming won’t cause much of a problem over the next week.
The Raised Bed
One thing that has been long overdue to was to sort out the raised beds. That were removed when I added the extension to the greenhouse a few years ago. so instead of having a big ole pile of weeds this year a trip to BandQ and a few housework I’ve now got a massive raised bed for a ton of veg to grow in. The only bit I’m worried about is how I’m going to reach the middle haha.
I managed to get the designed dialled in a prototype 3d printed off for my custom linear actuator. this is going to be used for opening the greenhouse windows and also on my solar panel tracker that I’m planning to build one I get caught up but this could be a month or so be for it materialises.
I’m not going to go into this with much detail as ill be doing a blog just on this element but just a quick update. I managed to get the pipework finished and tested in a hap hazard fashion. the pump which is recycled from a campervan I used to have can feed via the 2 solenoids both front and back beds in the greenhouse. and also the small 5m coiled hose to water independently. The hose manifold still has an empty spot this might get hooked up to water the pots on the shelf above the water butts at a later date.
One thing I don’t get to do enough is to just sit down outside and today was different. I moved one of the chairs I saved from the tip out of the shed and literally just sat and admired the space, the birds and soil. Something I find grounding and will try to do more.
Those seats and the table need a bit of TLC and ill probably do a blog on that when I get round to it until then.
All the Best
